[edit] The History of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity Inc.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, so named because the term sorority was not coined until after her creation, was founded at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Minnie Stewart, Anna Willits, Susan Walker, Jennie Boyd, Lou Bennett and Lou Stevensen declared the founding of their Fraternity on October 13th, 1870, by marching into the chapel at Monmouth College wearing golden keys in their hair.

Kappa Kappa Gamma was one of the first Greek Letter Organizations for women to be founded. Today Kappa Kappa Gamma is recognized nationally as one of the oldest and largest Greek-letter organizations in the country and currently has 134 chapters and over 300 alumni associations across the United States and Canada, with a total membership of more than 220,000 women.

[edit] Eta Epsilon Chapter at Johns Hopkins University

Eta Epsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded on October 23rd, 1999. Formal Recruitment takes place in late January and early February. The chapter holds a number of events to get to know the freshmen women throughout the fall semester.

Eta Epsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma is active in the Johns Hopkins University Panhellenic Council. The chapter's average GPA is higher than the University average GPA, the all-Greek average GPA and the average GPAs for both men and women.

The chapter was awarded the Panhellenic award at the Fraternity National Convention 2008.

[edit] Fraternity Symbols

The colors of Kappa Kappa Gamma are light blue and dark blue. The Fraternity jewel is the sapphire, and her flower is the fleur de lis. The owl, representative of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom, is a symbol of the Fraternity as well. The Fraternity badge is the golden key, and is worn only by initiated sisters. New members wear the new member pin, the greek letter Sigma inscribed within the letter Delta.

The National Philanthropy of Kappa Kappa Gamma is Reading Is Fundamental, which promotes literacy in children. Chapters are also encouraged to support local charities and the Rose McGill Foundation.
